(AgapePress) - A sociology professor at one North Carolina university is being accused of attempting to indoctrinate her students with radical feminist thought.Students who have taken honors introductory sociology at Elon University say Professor Angela Lewellyn Jones tolerates no classroom discussion that opposes her pro-abortion, anti-male point of view. They also argue the course contains readings on Karl Marx and Communism, but provides no material challenging such perspectives.
Luann Wright is the founder of NoIndoctrination.org, a website that promotes open inquiry in academia.
"The professor does have a right to express their own personal views on topics relevant to the course," Wright says, "but in order to get a well-rounded education, a student really needs to get [exposed] to all of the intellectual viewpoints relative to the discipline that they can fit in the term."
According to Carolina Journal Online, one former student of Jones' claims the sociology professor never mentioned "non-feminists" except to "dehumanize" them or call them "Philistines." The student also contends that the professor stated that "prohibiting abortion is a sexist act since it takes away a woman's right to correct a 'mistake' and forces the female to be confined to the shackles of motherhood."
Bias, apparently, is not limited to the lectern. According to Wright, most college sociology, anthropology, and political science courses contain biased reading material. "I have spoken with different sociology professors who have told me that many of the sociology textbooks are very skewed, only giving one perspective -- and some of these professors say they personally are not particularly conservative and they're troubled by the slant in many of the books," she says.
Wright's group has documented classroom bias from community colleges to Ivy League schools.
