(AgapePress) - An attorney and best-selling author says the left will not give up its efforts to reinstate a federal communications policy known as the "fairness doctrine," which would have a profound effect on conservative talk radio.David Limbaugh is an attorney in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. As the brother of talk-show icon Rush Limbaugh, he is concerned about the renewed desire of liberals in Congress to reinstate the fairness doctrine. Limbaugh says the left will do anything to shut down the free speech rights of those who disagree with them.
"They have not given up on this fairness doctrine," he explains. "These are people who claim to be champions of civil liberties, but they'll close down your right to First Amendment free speech in a second if it suits their needs, as we see on campuses and politically speech codes."
In addition, Limbaugh says Christian broadcasting entities need to be on guard as well. "The way society is going, it wouldn't surprise me [if the policy was reinstated]," he warns. The author explains that In his book Persecution: How Liberals Are Waging War Against Christianity, he documents "hundreds of cases where discrimination is occurring against Christians -- and the same is not the case with the other major religions."
He also believes that liberals will do whatever it takes to gain the audience and influence enjoyed by his brother. "I think the liberals -- because they can't seem to win the marketplace of ideas -- can't seem to achieve the equivalent of Rush," he says. "They can't get that kind of popularity on radio, [and] they're willing to change the rules and start to affect the [FCC] ownership rules ... in order to try to reduce Rush's audience size and influence."
Limbaugh says he is convinced that for liberals, the end justifies the means.
