(AgapePress) - A movement to restore the U.S. Constitution and restrain judicial activism is organizing weekend rallies in every state capitol in the hopes of getting lawmakers and concerned citizens to join their effort. The Saturday (Nov. 22) rallies are being planned by the National Coalition to Restore the Constitution. Organizers say their goal is to mobilize tens of thousands of concerned Christians to join their campaign asking Congress to reign in the federal courts by limiting their jurisdiction.
James Rizzuti, a spokesman for the coalition, says federal judges have shown contempt for the U.S. Constitution, a document which, he notes, puts limits on what judges can and cannot do with their rulings. "We believe that we have strayed really far from the constitutional limits, and that now judges are making laws from the bench rather than interpreting the text of laws that are written in our legislatures."
Through the rallies the coalition hopes to help people understand what is happening in the American judiciary system and what can and must be done about it. Rizzuti says it is time for concerned citizens to raise their voices against federal court judges whose decisions mock God's law.
"We need public awareness so that people understand that we've really strayed far from what our framers intended," he says.
Another purpose of the rallies is to show support for former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, who was removed from office for refusing to obey a federal court order to remove a Ten Commandments monument from the Alabama judicial building.
The National Coalition to Restore the Constitution will convene the "A Constitution in Crisis Summit" in January 2004.
