(AgapePress) - There are more allegations of rape involving the University of Colorado's scandal-plagued football program.Female place-kicker Katie Hnida tells Sports Illustrated she was raped by a teammate four years ago. Three other women have sued the school in federal court, saying they were raped by players or recruits at or after an off-campus party in 2001.
No assault charges have been filed. But prosecutors believe the CU-Boulder football program used sex and alcohol to entice recruits.
Pentecostal bishop Phillip Porter is on the seven-member independent panel that will be investigating the university's recruiting practices. Porter, who is also a member of the school's board of regents, is taking Hnida's allegations seriously. "I would only hope when we get to the very bottom of it, that it's not so," he says, "but from what I've heard, it sounds like it did indeed happen. So I'm very hurt by that."
Porter says the Colorado sex scandal typifies America's cultural decay. "Sex and promiscuity, alcohol, and [this kind of] behavior has become too much the order of the day, on campuses and in the open public," the bishop says.
"My goodness," Porter adds, "the Super Bowl was a terrible commentary on our life. So I guess I'm not shocked -- that's not the word. I'm hurt. I don't want it to be so at the university where we're supposedly building character."
Meanwhile, the Denver Post reports another woman told police more than a year ago that she was raped by a Colorado football player. That means to date, five women have said they were raped by Colorado players or recruits.
