(AgapePress) - One of America's foremost military pundits says he fears terrorists were clearly emboldened by what happened in the recent Spanish elections. Consequently, he believes the United States is the next logical target for a major terrorist hit.Retired Marine Lt. Colonel Oliver North says he is frightened by the prospect of a catastrophic terrorist attack on American soil before the November election. North says there are remarkable political similarities between the United States and Spain, which was hit by a terrorist attack just days before its national election.
"If you read the words of the new prime minister when he was campaigning, they are almost identical to the words being said today by John Kerry. I find that to be a frightening prospect and a great challenge to the terrorists," North says.
Spain's new socialist leader, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, was elected following the March 11 terrorist attacks in Madrid. And North says he and his incumbent opponent, conservative Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar, were as different as Senator John Kerry and President George W. Bush. The military expert says the contrast between Zapatero and Aznar is almost as stark as that between Kerry and Bush and describes the U.S. presidential candidates' positions as virtually opposite poles.
"One candidate would fight the war entirely differently; one candidate would stay the course. One candidate would try to accommodate the jihadists; one candidate says we can't. One candidate says we need to do more with the United Nations; the other candidate says he's not going to make defending this country the subject of a debate in the United Nations," North says.
The retired military officer fears the next major terrorist attack may be imminent and could take place right here in the United States. North says the U.S. is in a fight for its very survival and cannot afford to have what happened in Spain happen within its own borders.
