Texas Group Laments School's Decision to Give In on Same-Sex Issue

(AgapePress) - A pro-family group in Texas says by yielding to pressure from a liberal special-interest group and shelving its policy prohibiting same-sex prom dates, a school in that state is placing political correctness above the welfare of its students.
After being threatened with a lawsuit by the group People for the American Way (PFAW), Lago Vista High School "suspended" the policy for the remainder of the school year, and says it will continue to investigate its role in school social activities. PFAW claimed the policy violated the constitutional rights of homosexual students in the school, and had threatened legal action if the school did not abolish the policy at least one week before the prom, which took place on May 15. The school announced its decision on May 7. (See Earlier Story)
Cathie Adams with the pro-family group Texas Eagle Forum says the decision by the central Texas school will negatively affect the moral and physical health of children in the district.
"I am so disappointed that the leaders of a high school in our state would cave to those who hold to a perverse [and] unhealthy lifestyle, [and to] those who have a political agenda who are trying to push it off on the mainstream," Adams says.
Despite PFAW's apparent triumph in this case, Adams says the group is nothing more than a "paper tiger" that should not frighten those who desire to stand for what is right -- particularly parents, who she says have the primary say in their children's upbringing.
"We have wonderful lawyers who are God-fearing men and women who are more than ready to pick up their defense," she says. "They should not be intimidated by People for the American Way or any other group that is trying to push their political agenda off on the school system -- especially when it is such an affront to what the parents want for their children."
Adams says by shelving the policy, the school is allowing students to invite transvestites or other immoral individuals as prom guests. She suggests that if next year's prom allows alternative lifestyles, concerned parents and students should hold an alternative prom where homosexual behavior is not allowed.
