(AgapePress) - A Christian attorney says the numerous anti-family rulings by activist judges of late would not be happening if Christians had not sat on the sidelines for so long.Dee Wampler, who recently published the book The Myth of Separation Between Church and State (Winepress, 2003), believes people of faith must become informed and involved in the political process, no matter how distasteful it might seem. He is hoping his recently published book will let Christians know how important it is for them to play an active role in shaping the nation's political landscape.
The Springfield, Missouri, attorney is concerned about the almost daily reports of believers' liberties being stomped on by activist judges. He believes Christians need to take action, beginning at the grassroots level, just as the opposition has done. "Christians need to get involved," he says.
"If we Christians do not want to get involved in politics and government because we think it's just too dirty or it's beneath us, if we abandon the government and politics, who are we abandoning it to? In many cases," the author says, "to radical, left-wing liberals."
According to Wampler, the myth of a total separation between religion and politics mandated by the U.S. Constitution was created by activist judges not unlike those Bill Clinton was allowed to appoint. "We sat back, and we let them appoint liberal judges," he says. "We were told Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a moderate, and she was the chief counsel for the ACLU in the State of California, I believe."
The Christian lawyer insists that a cursory look at the qualifications and background of many of the U.S. Supreme Court judges would have revealed their radical leanings. And yet, he says, "We just sat back and we didn't object in those days -- and now we're aware of what's going on and how important those appointments are."
Wampler hopes Christians have learned a lesson since the Clinton Administration and the most recent installations of liberal judges at the federal level. Through his new book, he is encouraging Christians to get involved in stopping liberals and an activist judiciary from hijacking the American political process.
