(AgapePress) - Young people across America are being encouraged to take part in an initiative by a Louisiana evangelist to distribute Bibles. All this week Christian students nationwide have an opportunity to receive a free "Truth For Youth" Bible to hand out to an unsaved classmate.
For several years now, Truth for Youth Bibles have been distributed free of charge to Christian students in public schools. Tim Todd, designer-publisher of these special youth-targeted New Testament Bibles, says there is great hunger for God's word in public schools, and therefore great potential for impact among teens.
For instance, Todd tells of one young lady in South Texas, who gave her copy to a gang leader, who afterward gave his life to Christ and invited his entire gang to come to church with him. "All of them got a Truth For Youth Bible, and every one of them got saved," the Bible publisher says. "So these 12 gang members got saved as a result of one bold young lady giving one Truth for Youth Bible to one gang leader."
To date, more than 750,000 copies of the Truth For Youth Bible have been distributed to young people in an effort to respond to the liberal agenda that is being promoted in U.S. public schools. In addition to the God's Word Version of the New Testament, the Bibles feature comics that offer a biblical perspective on issues such as evolution, safe sex, peer pressure, homosexuality, abortion and other topics of concern to young people.
Last year alone, 51,500 Bibles were distributed through the Truth For Youth campaign," and Todd wants to see even more given away this year. "Statistically, of the 53.8 million students in America's public schools, 40 million don't have a Bible," he notes. "That makes this the greatest mission field in all of America."
Although the Truth For Youth Week outreach limits each household to one free Bible, those participants who want to give away more than one copy can purchase additional Bibles, specially discounted through August 6, from the website, "TheTruthforYouth.com," or can order them by phone at 1-800-733-4737.
