(AgapePress) - A group of New England churches are banding together for a second time to pray for revival and for the issues facing America.George Small is the pastor of Horizon Christian Fellowship in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He, along with other area pastors, is organizing "Stand New England," a Christian gathering for prayer which will take place next month.
Small says it is time for the Church in America to wake up, just as it has in times past when the nation became spiritually dark. "We read about the Great Awakening and various revivals that occurred in these times," he says.
"Pastors started to gather for prayer, large prayer gatherings started to happen," Small continues, noting that historically, those dark times have often led to nationwide spiritual revival. "It's like that again in America," he says, "and it's our hope that maybe God will use us in New England and even beyond, and that there will be a spiritual awakening in the Church and many will come together and pray."
Small says the "Stand New England" event is coming at a crucial time in U.S. history. "There's just so much going on," he says. "In Massachusetts here, we now have legalized same-sex marriage. And with the election coming up in November and so many things that are critical at this time, it's really an important time for God's people to come together and pray."
That is why, the pastor says, on Saturday, September 18th, "that's what we're going to be doing, all sorts of churches and Christians coming together." Stand New England will be held at Wachusett Mountain in Massachusetts, and Small is encouraging Christians in the region to come, or to contact Horizon Christian Fellowship for more information.
