Groups Claim New Film Falsely Depicts Famous Sex Researcher

(AgapePress) - A new movie glorifying Alfred Kinsey and his sexual research will hit theaters in New York and Los Angeles this weekend, before opening across the U.S. the following weekend. Pro-family groups are upset over what they are calling a very one-sided film.
Catholic Exchange is so disturbed by Kinsey (Fox Searchlight Pictures) that the Catholic outreach web portal is distributing a guide to help combat the false picture the Catholic group feels the film presents. A new resource called "The Kinsey Corruption" is part of the Catholic Exchange's effort to get the truth out about the real Alfred Kinsey and his so-called scientific research on human sexual behavior.
Lisa Wheeler, associate editor of Catholic Exchange, says her group believes there are many facts about the author of the highly-touted Kinsey Report that the public needs to know. "We feel that the film is going to distort the truth about Alfred Kinsey," she says. "He wasn't an expert. He was a zoologist."
Wheeler does not understand how a zoologist can "one day wake up and decide that he is going to document and provide clinical analysis on the way people are supposed to respond to each other in a sexual way," she says, "and then the country just embraces that. The film doesn't tell the truth about that."
Kinsey's data-collection methods have been called into question a number of times, with some critics calling attention to his statistically limited study sample, and others citing evidence that his interviewers were instructed to intimidate research subjects. Also, it has been alleged that the man who helped establish standards of human sexual behavior recognized by many professionals in the U.S. today relied heavily on data collected from criminals, pedophiles, and other sexual deviants.
But what angers most critics about Kinsey, Wheeler says, is what he did to children -- something else the people behind the bio-pic seem to be willing to ignore. "They're glorifying a man who is responsible for directed massive child abuse," the Catholic Exchange editor says, "and that's not portrayed in the movie."
Kinsey -- an American Mengele?
Bob Knight of Concerned Women for America goes even further, calling Kinsey an attempt to cover up the horrifying reality about its subject. He says the film "paints Kinsey as a flawed but sincere cultural hero," while it "ignores the massive fraud, Kinsey's sado-masochistic practices, and barely touches on his use of data on children in sex experiments."

According to Knight, who directed a 1995 documentary about Kinsey's studies on child sexuality, the renowned sex researcher actually encouraged pedophiles to molest children, all in the name of science. "Instead of being lionized, Kinsey's proper place is with Nazi Dr. Josef Mengele or your average Hollywood horror flick mad scientist," Knight says. The CWA spokesman asserts that Kinsey could easily be called the "godfather" of the homosexual activist movement, the campaign to mainstream pornography, and even the campaign to strike down abortion laws. He says Kinsey "was a sexual revolutionary masquerading as an objective scientist," whose most profound damage was done to children.
The research now commonly referred to as The Kinsey Report was published by Kinsey in the form of two books: Sexual Behavior in the Human Male in 1948 and Sexual Behavior in the Human Female in 1953. Although the author was at one time a household name, Knight says that is no longer true for people under 40.
Although Knight expects Hollywood will attempt to glorify Alfred Kinsey and make a hero of him in the eyes of a new generation, the CWA spokesman feels those who know better should not allow this to happen. Knight says the movie Kinsey is actually a prime opportunity to revisit someone who has had a profound negative effect on America's culture and expose him for what he was.
