Canadian Activist Prays Parliament's Not Poised to Profit from Prostitution

(AgapePress) - A Canadian pro-family advocate says it is absurd that ultra-liberal members of Parliament are actually going to consider legalizing prostitution in Canada.
In a nation already gripped by the prospect of legalized same-sex "marriage," now members of the Liberal Party will be asked to support a bill that would remove section 213 of the criminal code, which prohibits prostitution. Liberal Senator Mac Harb told the Toronto Sun newspaper that the move would be "a great idea" that would promote Canadian tourism, just as Amsterdam's red-light district has done in the Netherlands.
But Brian Rushfeldt of the Canada Family Action Coalition (CFAC) says legalized prostitution would be a destructive force in the life of the nation, and he is incredulous that anyone would suggest it. "If you start to promote something such as that as a tourist attraction," he observes, "that to me is so absurd that I can't believe that [Senator Harb] would even make that comment, no matter whether he's a moral or an immoral man."
But Rushfeldt does not think legalized prostitution will garner the same amount of support homosexual marriage has, and he doubts the measure will be easy to pass, even among Canada's liberals. "I think there are probably many members of Parliament that have at least some level of common sense," he says. "And certainly we have a number of them that have moral standards and that, I think, will see the detriment of the prostitution issue."
The CFAC spokesman is amazed at the absurdity of some of the ideas being pushed by certain radical members of Parliament, legalized prostitution being only the latest. "I guess what happens if you have no moral foundation is, then, you can argue for anything," he muses. "It doesn't matter how ridiculous it is, how immoral it is, how destructive it is, because when you have no moral standards to live within the confines of, anything is okay."
But feeling Canada's very future is at stake, Rushfeldt asserts, "To turn prostitution into a tourist attraction and draw the kind of people that will be drawn is absolutely absurd, and it will be destructive to this nation." Also, he notes that ultra-liberals in his country are currently pushing another potentially detrimental measure -- the legalization of marijuana -- which he believes will be another tough sell to most members of Parliament.
