(AgapePress) - A weekly television show that equips Christians to witness biblically and effectively has garnered two awards from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB). And now the co-creators of the evangelism-focused show are seeking ways to expand its impact.Kirk Cameron's and Ray Comfort's The Way of the Master program has won the NRB's "People's Choice" and "Best Program" awards for 2005. Now in its second season of airing on Trinity Broadcast Network, the show looks at issues Christians face in witnessing and what they need to know in order to share their faith with family, friends, and strangers.
And recently, Comfort says he and his "Way of the Master" ministries partner began working on a way to use the program as part of an intensive discipleship training course. "We're planning a third season," he notes, "and we're actually putting together -- Kirk Cameron and myself -- a three-hour teaching session which pulls in the cream of the whole 26 episodes."
In this way, the evangelist hopes to create a resource that churches can use to "train their people on one Saturday on how to effectively share their faith with others," he says, "and we're very excited about putting that together."
According to Comfort, The Way of the Master show teaches Christians how to conquer their fears when it comes to witnessing. He says he and Cameron have observed the tremendous impact the program has had on many believers. The evangelism-training expert points out, jokingly, that the program is more than just a "talking head" show and has a lot going for it, including "Kirk Cameron's celebrity, my good looks and humility, the content, and the reality TV."
But in all seriousness, Comfort explains that in each episode, "We give a teaching and talk about how the conscience can be pricked by the use of the Commandments. Then we take it to the streets and show how you can talk to an atheist and how you can circumnavigate the intellect and go directly for the conscience."
Both Comfort and Cameron offer further insights about witnessing and the Christian life through their columns and other resources on The Way of the Master website. Both also travel and speak extensively, and will be appearing at an upcoming Worldview Weekend "Family Reunion" event in Branson, Missouri.
