Stand Against 'Gay Pride' Event in Israel Unites Major Religions

(AgapePress) - A Christian leader who is spearheading a petition drive aimed at stopping a planned "gay pride" festival in Jerusalem this summer says such an event would never happen in a Moslem country. In fact, Islamic leaders have joined the effort to derail the event scheduled for the Holy City.
The New York Times recently reported that representatives of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are making a rare show of unity to stop the festival, saying the event would desecrate the city and convey the erroneous impression that homosexuality is acceptable. Mike Evans, founder of the Jerusalem Prayer Team, says he does not expect many "gay Moslems" will take part in the gala.
According to Evans, a very small percentage of the expected homosexual participants are Jewish, and "hardly [any] of them are Moslems," he observes -- then asks: "Who'd dare go to a Moslem country and have a parade like this? It's inconceivable that they would dare try that in a Moslem country."
Evans says the scope of the event is staggering. "They're expecting up to a quarter of a million [homosexuals]. Now, in the tiny city of Jerusalem, a quarter of a million would be comparable to having 10 million tourists in New York City," he says. "That's an astronomical number, a quarter of a million."
The Jerusalem Prayer Team leader maintains that the event slated for late August damages all religions -- and says he cannot understand why the city of Jerusalem would even consider such an event.
"This is a 'Sodom and Gomorrah event' like no other event that has transpired in the history of the Middle East since Sodom and Gomorrah," Evans states. "Why of all the cities in the world did they pick Jerusalem, to come up to Jerusalem from all the nations of the Earth?"
Evans says he is particularly angered by the prospect of the planned homosexual pride parade through the center of God's Holy City on August 25.
