PK Kicks Off 20-City Schedule of Stadium Gatherings for Men

(AgapePress) - Officials with Promise Keepers are gearing up for a new season of conferences for men who need to be challenged to live bold lives for Christ.

This summer, Promise Keepers will mark its 15th year of service as men are called to attend stadium and arena conferences throughout the United States. This theme for this year's conferences is "The Awakening: An Unpredictable Adventure." Events are slated for 20 cities in the U.S., the first being in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, on May 20-21, and concluding the last weekend in October at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington.

Harold Velasquez, vice president of creative services for PK, says the conferences over the next six months will highlight the struggle between light and darkness. He says Friday nights at the conferences will focus on the "the epic battle for a man's soul."

"There's a struggle in our own souls between surrendering all to Christ or living for myself," Velasquez explains. "Certainly Jesus has gone after our souls, but the enemy's been after our souls as well. We thank the Lord that we saw the light. We've turned our lives over to Jesus Christ, and we're calling others to understand that there is an epic battle for their souls -- but there's hope through the redemptive power of Jesus Christ."

According to Velasquez, PK sees a need for ministry to men in the Church -- many of whom he says are "just sitting there."

"How many men are ... in the Church, and they're just sitting there -- but they're really not engaged in the Church, they're not engaged in their homes, they're not engaged with their wives, with their children -- they're just living their lives?" he asks. "And maybe their life has been sucked into just living for their career, and some of them are just even asleep there."

PK, he says, wants to deliver an attention-getting message to that group. "We want to wake those men up," he says. "Guys have lost heart. We want to challenge that state of neutrality and wake it up, shake it up, and awaken them to the potential of being everything they can be in Christ."

Six of the 20 venues this year will be first-time visits for Promise Keepers: Ft. Wayne, Indiana; Fayetteville, Arkansas; East Lansing, Michigan; Charleston, South Carolina; Mobile, Alabama; and Long Island, New York. Velasquez made his comments during the recent PK media day held at ministry headquarters in Denver, Colorado.
