Canada's Same-Sex Marriage Bill May Face Imminent Defeat

(AgapePress) - A Canadian pro-family leader is optimistic that his country is headed to another election, which would effectively stop the Liberal-sponsored "homosexual marriage bill" in Canada's Parliament.
Derek Rogusky, senior vice president of Focus on the Family Canada, says despite all the odds, the pro-family forces are gaining momentum in their efforts to head off the legislation that would legalize homosexual marriage across the nation.
Rogusky says the homosexual marriage bill, like the Liberal government in Parliament, is teetering right now. "I still think that if it did come back to the House of Commons, we have a very good chance of defeating the legislation," he notes, "but all signs are right now that we're headed to a spring election."
The FOTF-Canada spokesman says the Liberals are in trouble because of an investigation that is expected to reveal a massive amount of malfeasance involving high-ranking government officials. "The corruption that's being unveiled through what's called the Gomery Commission is just so damaging that our Parliament is not going to be able to survive," he explains, "and as a result there is going to be an election this spring, which would kill all the legislation."
If that happens, Rogusky says he feels good about the Conservatives' chances of stopping the bill authorizing same-sex marriage in its tracks, in spite of all the elements that have been working in the Liberals' favor. He points out that at times the pro-family community has faced an uphill battle in the effort to defend traditional marriage, what with "the mainstream media and the courts in seven out of ten provinces stacked against you, and when you've got the Prime Minister's office not allowing his party members to have a free vote on this issue."
Still, the pro-family leader says, "despite everything being stacked against us, there are certainly signs for optimism, and I think that's why we're hopeful that we're going to be able to beat back this legislation." And whether that happens through defeating the bill by a vote or whether, as a result of an election being called, the legislation simply dies, Rogusky feels the same-sex marriage bill is almost certainly headed for defeat.
