U.S. Activist Warns West Against Welcoming China at G-8 Summit

(AgapePress) - An activist dedicated to exposing the threat posed by Communist China says the G-8 nations are making a mistake in inviting China's leader to next month's annual summit in Scotland.Even though the Asian country is not a member of the eight industrialized G-8 nations, China's huge economic growth has apparently prompted members to invite its leader, Hu Jintao to participate in the G-8 summit. D.J. McGuire, president and co-founder of China e-Lobby, notes, "This isn't the first time Jintao has gone to a G-8 conferences. He was invited to the one in 2003, and he apparently did such a wonderful job of pulling the wool over the eyes of the G-8 that they talked about including him in the group and making it the G-9."
McGuire points out that the inclusion of China in the international meeting does not confer upon the communist nation any genuine influence. "The reality is that a lot of these summit groups are for the most part symbolic organizations," he says. "There really isn't a lot of power or 'oomph,' as we like to say, that comes from joining one or joining the other."
On the other hand, the activist points out, the G-8 invitation to China does have some significant ramifications. "The real important issue," he asserts, "is that it grants them more symbolic legitimacy -- and that is not what the Chinese Communist Party deserves."
McGuire says the U.S. and the other industrialized nations should not let China be portrayed as a legitimate government by including it in the G-8 summit. "The main reason why this is a problem," he contends, "is because it presents to the rest of the world the notion that Communist China is a normal country with a normal government -- and it is neither. It is a prison society that is being run by a criminal, corrupted dictatorship."
That is the message that the West needs to understand and to communicate to the rest of the world, McGuire says. Unfortunately, he adds, the G-8 nations are doing neither and apparently have yet to begin fully recognizing or relaying the truth about China.
