AFA Chairman Urges Consumers Not to Support Pro-Homosexual Companies

by Allie Martin
July 15, 2005

(AgapePress) - The chairman of the American Family Association says consumers need to know which companies are actively promoting homosexuality and same-sex "marriage." Diversity Inc. recently published its "Top 10 Companies for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Employees " list, which includes some "household names" that might surprise many pro-family householders.

The Diversity Inc. list includes companies such as Eastman Kodak, Ford Motor Company, Citigroup, Pepsico, Merck and Company, Allstate Insurance, and the Coca-Cola Company. American Family Association founder and chairman Don Wildmon says large companies that promote homosexuality are part of a growing trend.

Pro-homosexual activists "are using major corporations to secure money from them to push homosexual marriage," Wildmon contends. "The sooner that the American public sees that and realizes and responds to that," he says, "the sooner we can halt this trend and turn it around."

Other companies among Diversity Inc.'s "Top 10 Companies for GLBT Employees" include D&T USA (Deloitte & Touche), Kaiser Permanente, and Visteon Corporation. The editors chose these companies by first counting organizations that filled out its Top 50 Companies for Diversity survey and indicated that they actively recruit homosexual, bisexual and transgender employees; have non-discrimination policies including sexual orientation; and offer domestic-partner benefits for same-sex couples. The publication also studied the corporate websites of the companies to see if they made "GLBT" employees and customers welcome.

Wildmon believes Christian consumers need to think twice before they patronize companies that support the homosexual agenda. While the pro-family spokesman admits it is impossible to boycott all companies that have homosexuality-affirming policies and practices, he says consumers can make a difference. "One company losing five to ten percent of its sales will send a clear message to every company in America," he asserts.

"Now, obviously there are some companies that are protected," the AFA chairman points out, "because they are not oriented toward the retail public. But they will get the message." However, he adds, "Most of the money that's going from the corporations into the homosexual groups to support gay marriage are coming from companies that have retail products consumers buy every day."

Recently AFA notified supporters of Allstate's promotion of homosexuality after a Christian employee was fired for writing an article opposing same-sex marriage. Wildmon says pro-family consumers need to be informed so they can send let pro-homosexual companies know what kind of values they are willing or unwilling to support with their spending.
