(AgapePress) - - A ministry based in Mississippi is encouraging Christians throughout the United States to become mission-minded. Tupelo-based Global Outreach was organized 35 years ago by a group of Christian lay leaders as a way to help people in developing nations through agriculture and community development projects.Wes White is executive director of Global Outreach, which today oversees missionaries in 33 countries. He says one of the ministry's main goals has always been to connect all Christians with missions.
"One of our mottos, if you will, is that anyone can be a missionary," White says, "even if it's only for a week. What we try to do is take people's skills and help them help others both physically and spiritually."
The missionary agency spokesman says many Christians can have an impact on the worldwide mission field through programs like Global's. And, he notes, there are many different means for individuals to help.
"We say there's three ways," White explains. "You can go -- that's a tremendous help to the missionary if you can use your skills to go and help there; you can pray -- there's not a missionary who can stay on the field without prayer support; and then you can give. If you can't go, you can give."
Global Outreach offers Christian individuals and partner churches opportunities and facilities for working directly with the global mission field. The Mississippi-based ministry oversees 166 missionaries in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America.
