Columnist: ID Censorship Exemplifies Liberal Assault on Free Speech

(AgapePress) - - A conservative columnist says recent defeats for those who support the teaching of the origins theory known as intelligent design, or ID theory, are yet more evidence that free speech is being suppressed in America's public schools.

Last month, a federal judge ruled that it is unconstitutional to teach intelligent design as an alternative to the theory of evolution in Pennsylvania schools. And only last week, after being sued by Americans United for Separation of Church and State, a California school district agreed that it would no longer offer students a course called "Philosophy of Design."

Conservative activist and commentator Nathan Tabor feels these incidents and similar developments in areas all over the nation indicate just how well liberals have succeeded in getting free thought and discussion banned in schools across America.

"If we're going to teach one side of a thought, we should also teach the other side," Tabor asserts. "The liberals always talk about tolerance and how they want to tolerate everything and everybody; but then, when it came down to teaching something that went against what they believe in, they don't want that in the classroom."

The columnist observed recently that when Americans reach the point where "our government starts telling us what we can learn and how we can think, government has gone too far." But even as free speech critical of evolution is being suppressed nationwide, he contends, U.S. students are being strictly schooled in atheism.

Evolutionists dismiss ID proponents arguments "because they just say we shouldn't have religion in the school," Tabor asserts. "Yet evolution is ultimately a type of religion. There is as much science or [there is] lacking as much science to back up ID as there is evolution."

Hence, the conservative spokesman declares, to say that an intelligent designer does not exist or that ID theory does not make sense is "exactly what conservatives and Christians say about evolution." But liberals "don't want a fair and challenging argument," he says. "They only want to present one side of an issue."

As a result, Tabor contends, America is gradually losing its democratic beliefs and replacing them with liberal socialism. He believes recent court cases and policies banning the teaching of intelligent design in places all around the U.S. are contributing to the rapid decline of freedom of thought and expression in American culture.
