(AgapePress) - - The Christian Film & Television Commission is preparing to recognize and honor both television and movie actors for performances best displaying the grace of God. Appropriately, the award is known as the Grace Award. This year's nominations for the TV GRACE Award at the 14th Annual MOVIEGUIDE® Faith & Values Awards, which honors inspiring acting, include actors Jon Voight (Pope John Paul II), Deanne Bray (Sue Thomas F.B. Eye: Beginnings And Endings), Stephen Collins (7th Heaven), and Bruce Greenwood (Saving Milly). This year's nominations for the Movie GRACE Award include actors Alex Etel (Millions), Ulrich Matthes (The Ninth Day), and Tom Wilkinson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose). Although eight contenders are hoping for this year's award, only two will walk away with the coveted trophy.
The Grace Award is awarded annually to an actor or actress in a motion picture, as well as one in television, whose performances best displayed God's grace toward us as human beings. It is presented by Dr. Ted Baehr, founder and chairman of the Christian Film & Television Commission™ (CFTVC), which sponsors the annual awards show. Dr. Baehr will announce the winners at the black tie event held Thursday, March 2, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.
"These performances are the most inspirational performances of the year," Baehr said. "They are the performances that best reflect the high moral and spiritual standards of the Faith & Values Awards Gala."
Besides honoring the Top 10 Films for Mature Audiences, Dr. Baehr will also present the Commission's Top 10 Best Films for the Family Audience. Other MOVIEGUIDE® categories include the 10th Annual $50,000 John Templeton Foundation Epiphany Prizes for Inspiring Movies & TV, the $50,000 Ware Foundation Libertas Prize (new this year) for Promoting Positive American Values, and the $25,000, $15,000 and $10,000 Kairos Prizes for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays by First-Time Screenwriters.
The Commission will also release the complete results of their Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry at the March 2 Gala. The Report analyzes Variety and Nielsen EDI financial numbers for the top movies at the box office and home video during the past year and assesses each film by more than 50 different criteria, including prevalence of violence, sexuality, consumption of alcohol or illicit drugs, occult references, worldview, and more.
Held three days before this year's Oscars ceremony, the MOVIEGUIDE® Faith & Values Awards Gala seeks to recognize the best family-friendly movies and TV shows of the previous year. Both MOVIEGUIDE® and CFTVC seek to redeem the values of the entertainment industry and influence industry executives and artists by informing and educating the public about entertainment media. CFTVC also seeks to educate families about the influence of the entertainment media so they can become media-wise and better equipped to reject objectionable programming in favor of programming that inspires, enriches, and redeems.
