Ann Coulter: 'Liberalism' a Religion of Intolerance and Hostility

(AgapePress) - - A New York Times best-selling author has published an explosive new book that has drawn the ire of the liberal establishment. The book contends that liberals have their own "religion" -- liberalism -- and points out the hostility of the Left toward Christians and Jews. Ann Coulter's book is called Godless: The Church of Liberalism. The conservative pundit and syndicated columnist says liberalism in itself is a religion with its own understandings about why we are here. Coulter says for one thing, it rejects the notion that man is supreme over the rest of the planet.
"This is in direct contradiction of the book of Genesis, which tells us that God gave us the plants and the animals. We have dominion over them," she notes. "That isn't a license to abuse them, but it does mean a human being is more important than a snail darter; and that isn't the view of the liberal religion."
Coulter notes that liberals tend to lecture about the importance of keeping religion out of public schools, while at the same time try to shove theirs down children's throats. She cites an example earlier this year.
"Children are being bused to see Al Gore's movie on global warming and baptized in the religion of recycling and safe sex," the author points out. "Their religion is taught six hours a day for 12 years of a child's life, while [with] our religion -- you can't even have a moment of silence because, 'Oh-oh, people might pray to a higher being that isn't Bill Clinton.'"
Liberalism, she contends, is not instantly recognizable as a religion because it is a godless religion. But it has all the attributes of a religion, she says.
"[It has] its own cosmology, it's own understanding for why we're here, it's own belief system on matters of faith," she says. "And it has all the bad things that religions get accused of, though you don't see [them] too much among god-based religions in this country."
Those attributes, which she says are not found in Judeo-Christian teachings, include "the self-righteousness, the intolerance, the preachiness" -- all of which she says "we get ... in spades from the church of liberalism."
