(AgapePress) - - Two educators with a Christian school in Solana Beach, California, have put together an instruction DVD to help parents guard their families from the potential harm found on the Internet. "The Internet and Your Kids: Healthy Habits for a Safe Online Home" is a step-by-step instructional presentation that provides "strategies for parents desiring a safe online home for their children," says Brian Dixon. The DVD allows parents to learn helpful tips for Internet users. Julie Dixon says the video disc "is packed with screenshot tutorials, student and parent interviews, and straightforward advice."
As teachers, Brian and Julie Dixon are actively involved with instructing children throughout their weekday routine. They know about the harm that can be found on the Internet. In their DVD they provide specific instructions on how to deal with such items as MySpace.com, instant messaging (IM), setting passwords, filtering software, file sharing, and computer location.
As documented by pro-family groups like the American Family Association, Internet pornography and web-based gambling pose many dangers to family members. Internet porn is a huge business that grosses in excess of $3 billion a year. And through more than 1.4 million websites, Internet pornographers actively solicit new customers every day. In their video, the Dixons inform parents of these dangers and give valuable advice that helps family members successfully navigate the Internet.
"The Internet and Your Kids" also addresses some of the problems parents can encounter with Internet filtering. While filters are an important resource for each family, this DVD provides parents with timely advice on how to check "computer history and audit trails" that help moms and dads set up proper boundaries for their kids. This also involves hints on parental controls, password maintenance, and how to turn on language and image filters. The video even tells parents how to see what sites their children have been visiting.

Brian Dixon says that in classes he teaches, "the majority of my students use MySpace ... but [unfortunately] the parents don't know where to start to protect their kids." Julie Dixon adds that parents "need a simple tool to help them monitor and keep their kids safe." (North County Times) This DVD is an excellent tool that will only provide knowledge that moms and dads need to protect their home.
