Citizen Urges Protest Over Virginia Homosexual Group's Vulgar 'Pride' Event

(AgapePress) - - Pro-family advocates are outraged over an incident that occurred September 30 at an outdoor event sponsored by Gay Pride Virginia. The event had been touted as a family affair; however, according to a member of a Christian ministry who attended, it turned out to be anything but G-rated.
The event, billed as a "family friendly outing," was part of the scheduled activities of "Gay Pride Fest," which Gay Pride Virginia describes as a celebration of unity and diversity in Virginia's "gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community." An area Christian, Dennis Green of Life and Liberty Ministries, decided to attend Pride Fest with several of his associates, and was appalled by what he witnessed.
The main entertainment for the outdoor event was a cross-dresser who, according to Green, cavorted across the stage doing vulgar and explicit jokes, including some dealing with incest. And this performance was allowed to go on, despite the presence of many young children in the crowd.
The male drag artist known, according to the Richmond Times Dispatch, as "Lady Bunny" appeared in "clear platform heels, a sparkly dress and sky-high blond hair" and delivered a performance that Green recalls as being egregiously obscene.
"His routine was a musical comedy montage with a lot of one-liners," the Life and Liberty Ministries spokesman notes, "all of which were sexually oriented, the most graphically sexual-oriented jokes I've ever heard in my life." But when he and his associates complained to police at the event, he says, "the only response we received from three officers we approached was, 'Well, if it offends you or it bothers you, you can leave.'"
Green's group has organized a letter-writing campaign in hopes of preventing this kind of thing from occurring again. "Right now we're seeking to have people write letters to the mayor, to the City Council, to the Commonwealth Attorney's office," he says, "to try to have something done to protect children in the future."
Gay Pride Virginia's "Gay Pride Fest" was advertised as a first annual event, Green points out, "so it seems that they plan to do this again." He says details about the 2006 event can be seen at LifeandLibertyMinistries.com, and he hopes concerned pro-family citizens will find out more and then make their voices heard so perhaps the community's children will not be exposed to this kind of vulgarity in the future.
