(AgapePress) - - Liberty Counsel, a Florida-based public-interest law firm specializing in the defense of civil liberties, has launched its fourth annual "Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign," an effort to defend Christmas from secularist attempts to suppress the holiday's traditional, faith-based aspects. The campaign is designed to help those who face persecution or censorship for celebrating Christmas. Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel, expects another active season. "Last year, we put the 'grinches' on the run," he notes, " and this year, millions of Americans will join together to help save Christmas."

Staver says Americans have said "enough is enough," and are "drawing a line in the sand," ready to fight for their right to celebrate the national holiday according to their beliefs and faith traditions. People are fed up, he contends, and many are saying, "We are going to celebrate Christmas, we're going to protect Christmas, and we're not going to let the grinches this year -- whether retailers or the ACLU -- steal Christmas this coming year."Staver notes that Liberty Counsel handled a number of Christmas censorship cases in 2005, including a lawsuit against two Florida towns whose officials would not allow a Nativity scene in a public park. And that was just one example in what has been an ever-increasing wave of attacks against traditional celebrations of Christ's birth in recent years.
"Last year," the attorney observes, "I think we saw a revolution and a revival in Christmas" in response to secularist attacks. "Renaming a Christmas tree to a holiday tree, stopping students from wearing red and green, and censoring religious Christmas carols are absurd," he says, "but unfortunately [they are] true examples of the war against Christmas."
Once again, Liberty Counsel has promised to be a friend to those who stand up to this annual assault on the Christian holiday by not censoring Christmas. Conversely, the legal organization has pledged to be a "foe" to any entities that try to suppress traditional Christmas celebrations.
According to Staver, when enough people learn the truth, that it is lawful and constitutional to observe the religious aspects of this holiday, "the ACLU and similar 'grinches' will lose their power to censor Christmas." Concerned Americans are being encouraged to join the "Friend or Foe" movement and to get their own "Help Save Christmas" action packs, now available from Liberty Counsel.
These action packs include helpful resources, including booklets explaining what the law says about celebrating Christmas and downloadable legal memos that individuals can share with their local school and government officials. Each pack also contains an "I Helped Save Christmas" button and bumper sticker, for those who want to show their support for the campaign.
Staver says the "Friend or Foe" Christmas campaign has been effective these four years and has ignited a movement. In an example of growing support for the effort, he notes, thousands of public school teachers and administrators who are members of Christian Educators Association International have already joined the campaign.
