(OneNewsNow.com) - - Several organizations working to advance legal rights and recognition of homosexual partners have released a publicity video titled "The Way Life Should Be: Homosexual Marriage in Maine." But a spokesman from a statewide pro-family organization says despite the slick packaging of the video, he doubts people will be fooled by it.
Released in time for Valentine's Day, "The Way Life Should Be" features three Maine homosexual couples who tell their stories -- two female couples and one male couple who are in long-term relationships and want to marry in the state. The video, produced by Equality Maine, Maine Civil Liberties Union, and Gay & Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD), was designed to be distributed in conjunction with national "Freedom to Marry Week," February 11-17.
According to a news release from Equality Maine, the pro-homosexual video is also intended to be shown at house parties. To that end, it has been loaded onto YouTube and sent to cable access stations across the U.S. as well.
Mike Heath, executive director of the Christian Civic League of Maine (CCLM), says his pro-family organization is warning the public that "The Way Life Should Be" fails to tell the truth about homosexuality and inaccurately portrays typical long-term same-sex partnerships as monogamous and healthy.
"Those relationships are rare -- everybody knows that -- especially on the male side of the homosexual experience," Heath says. "All the research shows that male homosexuality is extremely promiscuous and very dangerous," he notes.
Depicting the typical homosexual relationship as if it were all about romance and intimacy rather than about risk and promiscuity and promoting such relationships that way, even to high school children, is a deception, the CCLM spokesman contends. However, he says Maine residents are smart enough to realize the truth.
"The Way Life Should Be" leaves out essential information -- facts revealed by research -- about the dangerous nature of the homosexual lifestyle and the health risks of homosexual sex, especially between males, Heath asserts.
"To portray this whole thing as if it's some kind of wonderful, safe, Valentine's Day kind of thing that's all about romance and love is a lie," the Maine pro-family advocate insists. Nevertheless, he says he is convinced most people will see through it.
"The Way Life Should Be" tries to promote a romantic but dishonest view of same-sex relationships, Heath says. The video's portrayal of homosexuality is not the way it is, the CCLM official suggests; he predicts Maine citizens will see through the pro-homosexual publicity campaign and that it will ultimately backfire.
