Pro-abortion specialty plates proposed in Florida

(OneNewsNow.com) - - The president of Liberty Counsel says he doubts many people will want to purchase a specialty license plate in Florida that promotes killing. But that's exactly what one tag proposed by an abortion group would do.

The Orlando chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) is proposing a new Florida specialty plate that reads "United For Choice." The plate features a human figure surrounded by stars. The pro-abortion group is trying the raise the necessary $60,000 for an application fee and complete a survey demonstrating that at least 30,000 people would buy it.

Liberty Counsel founder Mat Staver, who has worked on many cases defending "Choose Life" plates, says this attempt to counter the pro-life message will not fly.

"I'm surprised, in fact, that they've waited this long. I think the reason why they have waited so long to obtain their first license plate, or at least try to, is because they just don't have the base of people that they pretend to have. So far they [had] just tried to stop the 'Choose Life' license plates because they oppose the message. They have never attempted or even successfully gotten close to obtaining their own license plate."

Staver suggests the more appropriate message for NOW's plate would be "Choose Death."
