TOPEKA, Kansas, (christiansunite.com) -- Three top members of the Kansas House revealed Friday that they had send a letter to Attorney General Paul Morrison asking for the reinstatement of charges against abortionist George R. Tiller that had been filed by former Attorney General Phill Kline. The letter was the first step to persuade Morrison to pursue the criminal case against Tiller that included 30 misdemeanor charges related to 15 illegal late- term abortions.
House Speaker Melvin Neufeld told the Associated Press that be believed that the resolution option that pro-life groups, including Operation Rescue, have been asking for should be "last-ditch effort," but one he had not yet ruled out.
Morrison responded in his own letter with his usual statement, indicating that if he found that Tiller had violated the law, he would prosecute. However this time Morrison teased, offering to release a statement about Tiller "in the near future."
"We are gratified that the House leaders have taken this first step in pursuing the reinstatement of charges against Tiller," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "We encourage them to continue to press forward on this issue until Tiller is finally brought to justice.
"We believe that Morrison is just to trying make people think he is doing something while he continues to do nothing until the legislative session runs out. It would be a mistake to allow his stalling tactics to postpone necessary action in the legislature," said Newman. "There is no reason for further delay. There has already been an investigation. The witness statements have been obtained. Evidence has already convinced two separate judges there is probable cause to believe Tiller violated the law. There is nothing more to do than to take the case to court. It really is that simple."
Operation Rescue will be in Topeka for the Kansans for Life rally and press conference on Tuesday, March 27, and will continue to encourage the men and women of the Kansas Legislature to follow through and make sure the laws of Kansas against aborting viable babies are enforced.
