FT. WAYNE, Indiana, (christiansunite.com) -- Former Rescue leader Bryan Brown has announced that he has purchased an old abortion clinic in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, where he was once fined $61,600 for rescue protests in the early 1990's.Unwilling to pay the unjust fines, Brown packed up and came to Wichita, Kansas, to participate in Operation Rescue's 1991 Summer of Mercy. Afterwards, Brown stayed on, earning a law degree and eventually leading the Consumer Affairs Division of the Kansas Attorney General's Office. The fines against Brown were dropped.
Brown will be returning to his hometown of Ft. Wayne to establish a Culture of Life Center in the building that was once a place where innocent life was taken. "We will be involved in commemoration, communication and litigation in support of natural law and pro-family issues," he said.
The former Women's Health Clinic building was bought by Brown through his group, Donnagal Corridor, named after an Irish mountain pass secretly opened to American airmen during World War II so they could refuel while hunting German submarines in the North Atlantic. The purchase price of the building was ironically almost identical to the amount Brown was fined for protesting there.
A blessing for the building, located at 827 Webster St. in Ft. Wayne, has been scheduled for May 19, at 9:30 am.
"This furthers the trend of Christians buying abortion clinics and redeeming them for righteousness," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman who bought and closed a Wichita abortion mill last spring and is currently renovating it to serve as the group's national headquarters and a memorial to the pre- born. "This is an amazing picture of God's redemptive power."
"We congratulate Bryan Brown on his new endeavor in Indiana and look forward to seeing many great pro-life victories as a result of his commitment of faith to the protection of the innocent," Newman said.
