TALLAHASSEE, Fl., (christiansunite.com) -- A speechwriter for a former Florida governor says Christians have a responsibility to be involved in some way in the governmental process. Brian Mimbs addressed this issue and others during a recent interview on "Walking with the Giant", a Podcast produced by the James Croft Evangelistic Association.During the interview with program host James Croft, a 3'10" tall evangelist from Olustee, Florida, Mimbs said, "When Christians sit home we'll be replaced by those who do continue to be active and they generally will be people who embrace a world view which is hostile toward the Word of God and to the things of God."
Mimbs began his government career at the age of 20 serving as an aid to a member of the Florida House of Representatives. Over the past eleven years, he has served three members of the state house and served as a speechwriter for the House Majority Leader, the Speaker of the House, and the Florida Secretary of State. During the last year of Governor Jeb Bush's term, he served as his speechwriter.
Upon Bush leaving office, Mimbs was offered several positions in the private sector; however, he felt led by God to enter full-time ministry as a pastor. He now pastors Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Tallahassee, the state capitol of Florida.
Speaking on the influence of Christians and the Church in government, Mimbs said, "We live in a world where the church today is in retreat in many areas and on many fronts and instead of impacting this culture as we did for the better part of 150 years in this country, we are now being influenced by this culture and we're in retreat because of that."
He added that one of the reasons for the Church being in retreat is, "...We have not presented a forceful, clearly understood, Biblical world view..."
Mimbs went on to say that Christians should be influencing the culture in the world. ."God does have positions on a lot of issues...", added the 31 year old pastor. He said he did not believe God was a Republican or Democrat, but He (God) is less concerned with the "pocket book" and more concerned with the "Good Book".
