Day Gardner, President of National Black Pro-Life Union Comments on Resolution Urging NAACP to Help Reduce Abortion

WASHINGTON, (christiansunite.com) -- Last week, at the NAACP 98th Annual Convention in Detroit, July 7-10, the Macon Chapter of the NAACP submitted a resolution urging the national NAACP to undertake efforts to reduce the high rate of abortion in the black community. A similar resolution was submitted to the NAACP convention by the same group in 2004, but was not considered due to an alleged technicality.

"As a child I thought the NAACP to be a super hero organization; an organization that would fight racism down to its very core-and like a super hero-it would always stand for truth and justice...fighting boldly for civil rights and freedom for all black people, said Day Gardner, President of the National Black Pro-Life Union. "Apparently, there was some fine print in there that said-except for those children who are too small to defend themselves-we will allow their civil rights to be violated."

In 2004, the NAACP announced that its board voted to take a pro-abortion position, but they quietly rescinded their stand due to backlash from the black community.

"When it comes to abortion, the NAACP is significantly out of touch with the vast majority of black Americans."

"What bothers me most is the NAACP is very quick to recognize racism everywhere else except the one place that truly affects all of us. Black women and their unborn children are targeted by the abortion industry while the NAACP looks the other way," Gardner said.

According to the Guttmacher Institute, the research arm for Planned Parenthood, more than 90% of all abortion facilities are placed in lower-income urban areas. It also states that clients are mostly women of color.

"The abortion industry makes millions and millions of dollars--blood money--by killing our black children while the NAACP buries its organizational head in the sand. The resolution submitted at the NAACP Convention this year was an opportunity to finally get it right-to make a stand for all black people, no matter how small their bodies may be and with that-be able to prove that it is still an vital organization. But then, maybe it no longer is."

Day Gardner is also on staff with the National Pro-life Action Center on Capitol Hill and anchors "The Daily Life News with Day Gardner" on NPLR.net.
