WASHINGTON, (christiansunite.com) -- Concerned Women for America of Virginia is co-sponsoring a rally at the Virginia Supreme Court Building at 100 North Ninth Street, Richmond, Virginia, on Wednesday, August 29 from 2:00- 4:30 p.m to show support for the Virginia Marriage Amendment, which was passed by a large majority of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
On the morning of August 29, Mat Staver of the Liberty Counsel will present arguments before the Virginia Supreme Court to convince it to take the case of Jenkins v. Miller. This case involves "parenting time" awarded to a former lesbian's ex-partner by the state of Vermont. The child caught up in this case is a precious little five-year-old girl who, until this summer, had not had any contact with her mother's ex-partner since the age of two.
The Virginia Court of Appeals ruled earlier this year that Vermont has jurisdiction in this case, even though the Virginia Defense of Marriage Act (2004) and recently passed Marriage Amendment clearly state that Virginia does not recognize civil unions. The Court of Appeals clearly violated Virginia law.
The rally will end with a press conference presented jointly by Liberty Counsel, Concerned Women for America and The Family Foundation.
Janet Davis, Concerned Women for America of Virginia's Prayer Action Chapter leader, says, "The people have spoken, but the Virginia court system isn't listening. Now, a five-year-old girl is being subjected to traumatic circumstances because the Virginia courts have opened the doors to setting a new precedent that is not in the best interest of marriage or children."
"Come and join us as we bring attention to this important cultural issue and lend our support to the defense of the Virginia Marriage Amendment."
Concerned Women for America is the nation's largest public policy women's organization.
