World Congress of Families Appalled by British Decision to Allow Creation of Hybrid Embryos

(christiansunite.com) -- World Congress of Families International Secretary Allan Carlson called a decision to allow the creation of embryos with human and animal DNA "yet another tragic milestone in the devaluation of human life."

The decision to allow the procedure was made by Britain's Human Fertilization and Embryo Authority, which will now evaluate two previously submitted proposals to actually perform the experiments.

The procedure consists of injecting human DNA into rabbit or cow eggs, whose own DNA has been mostly, but not completely, removed. This is intended to facilitate the extraction of stem cells for research.

Carlson comments: "These human/animal embryos are supposed to be destroyed within 14 days - which is bad enough in itself. But once we start down this particular slippery slope, what monsters may greet us at the bottom?"

"What started with the abortion movement in the early 1970s has led to the euthanasia and cloning movements and now the first steps toward creating chimeras (creatures part human and part animal) - all in the name of human rights and medical advances," Carlson observed. "Who's to say that at some point in time one of these hybrids won't be transferred to a woman's womb and allowed to gestate?"

The World Congress of Families calls on the British government to reverse its decision to inflict such horrors on humanity.

World Congress of Families supports the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death. More than 3,400 delegates from 62 countries attended World Congress of Families IV, held in Warsaw, Poland, May 11-13, 2007.

The World Congress of Families (WCF) is an international network of pro-family organizations, scholars, leaders and people of goodwill from more than 60 countries that seeks to restore the natural family as the fundamental social unit and the 'seedbed' of civil society. The WCF was founded in 1997 by Allan Carlson and is a project of The Howard Center for Family, Religion & Society in Rockford, Illinois (www.profam.org). To date, there have been four World Congresses of Families - Prague (1997), Geneva (1999), Mexico City (2004) and Warsaw, Poland (2007).
