ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Florida, (christiansunite.com) -- The School Board in St. Lucie County, Florida will hold a public forum Saturday, December 8, beginning at 9 AM on the proposed Sex Ed Curriculum "Get Real about AIDS" and will release the curriculum would be available for public review on [its website www.stlucie.k12.fl.us] December 3. Port St. Lucie Pastor Bryan Longworth believes St. Lucie County School Superintendent Michael Lannon is hiding the curriculum's content from parents and will attend tonight's 6 PM school board meeting to ask Lannon to release the curriculum for public review. While Lannon describes "Get Real about AIDS" as a curriculum that promotes abstinence, Longworth believes that Lannon hopes parents citizens don't find out how graphic and sexually explicit the proposed curriculum really is. "Lannon hopes parents don't find out that this curriculum promotes condoms, mentioning condoms and contraception 210 times to only 17 mentions of abstinence, and includes graphic condom demonstrations.
He hopes they don't find out what changes, if any, have been made to the condom field trip. What is he afraid of? If this curriculum is so good, he should give the parents adequate time to review rather than releasing the 179 page curriculum a mere 5 days prior to public input." Longworth asks, "what is he hiding?" Longworth will attend tonight's school board meeting and challenge Mr. Lannon to stop hiding this curriculum's contents from parents. Parents have a right to know what their children will be taught, especially when it comes to sexuality and reproduction.
Pastor Bryan Longworth is the associate pastor of Covenant Tabernacle World Outreach Center in Port St. Lucie, FL, cofounder of Youth for America, and is part of a group of parents and concerned citizens that has gathered over 3,500 petitions in opposition to "Get Real about AIDS."
