MEDIA ADVISORY, (christiansunite.com) -- Gospel Communications is launching an online volunteer matching site in partnership with TechMission. The goal of the site is to match Christians with volunteer opportunities in ministries serving under-resourced communities. The site is free and works similar to job matching sites like Monster.com except matching volunteers to volunteer opportunities. Potential volunteers can search over 2,200 volunteer and short-term missions opportunities from over 1,300 organizations. After finding an opportunity users simply click a button to be matched to the organization to volunteer. With Gospel Communications' Bible Gateway site being the most popular Bible site in the world, the site is expected to recruit thousands of volunteers that will donate time worth millions of dollars serving under- resourced communities.
The site is in partnership with TechMission's ChristianVolunteering.org, which is the first major website to match volunteers with Christian volunteer service opportunities. According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, the value of the donated time of faith-based volunteers in 2005 was $51.8 billion dollars-which is the target market for this website.
ChristianVolunteering.org's partners serve over 35 million low-income individuals each year and include the Salvation Army, the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions, World Vision, Christian Community Development Association, Here's Life Inner City (Campus Crusade), Urban Youth Worker's Institute and YouthPartnersNet (formerly Compassion USA).
In addition to matching volunteers to local volunteer opportunities, the site also has sections for short-term missions opportunities, virtual volunteering opportunities and volunteer opportunities for church small groups. The short-term missions directory has over 640 short-term mission trips ranging from one week to three years in length in over 50 countries. Virtual volunteer opportunities enable people to volunteer remotely using skills like Web design, computer programming, accounting, grant writing, etc. The group opportunity directory provides over 800 volunteer opportunities for church small groups.
