LANSDOWNE, Va., (christiansunite.com) -- Care Net President Melinda Delahoyde on Wednesday applauded WORLD magazine's choice of "Daniel of the Year:" those individuals who sacrificially serve in our nation's pregnancy centers and offer practical help and emotional support to those facing unplanned pregnancies."Care Net is honored to serve this esteemed national network of heroes," Delahoyde said. "Because of the support of pregnancy centers, women in crisis have been transformed, new life has been embraced, and families across this nation have been forever changed. All who have worked, volunteered, or donated time and resources to pregnancy centers deserve America's wholehearted thanks and praise."
Similar to TIME magazine's "Person of the Year" but with a different focus, WORLD magazine names a "Daniel of the Year" - a person or group of people whose "faith in God gave them the strength to stand up against tyrants who tried to put themselves in God's place." In the case of this year's "Daniel," pregnancy center directors and volunteers have been honored for standing up to those forces and circumstances in a woman's life that seemingly point to abortion. As a result of their efforts, hundreds of thousands of lives each year are instead welcomed into the world and surrounded by a supportive community.
In its "Daniel" feature, WORLD magazine's editor Marvin Olasky highlighted the work of Wanda Kohn, director of Pregnancy Care Center in Leesburg, Florida, to represent the work of the thousands of women and men who serve in pregnancy centers.
This is the second national cover story this year for the more than 2,300 pregnancy centers across North America that comprise the "compassion in action" side of the pro-life movement. Time magazine featured pregnancy centers in its February 26 issue, calling pregnancy centers "the new face of an old movement."
Care Net is a Christian, non-profit organization that supports a network of 1,100 pregnancy centers across North America and operates the Option Line website (www.optionline.org) and call center, a joint venture with Heartbeat International.
