STATEN ISLAND, NY, (christiansunite.com) -- Dr. Alveda King, Spokeswoman for the Silent No More Awareness Campaign (SNMAC) and niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., has been named one of the Top Ten People of 2007 by Inside the Vatican magazine.Dr. King, who suffered one involuntary and one voluntary abortion earlier in life, has been a leader in the movement of women and men coming forward to testify to the harm they've endured from aborting their children. In naming Dr. King to its top ten list, Inside the Vatican magazine said "she is a living rebuttal of the thesis that abortion should be allowed as a 'civil right' like any other."
"I only pray that this honor raises awareness that abortion doesn't just terminate a life, it devastates the survivors," said Dr. King. "Through God's grace, I've experienced forgiveness and healing and I want all people scarred by abortion to know that the same forgiveness and healing is available to them. Even more, I want women everywhere to know that nothing good comes from ending the lives of their children."
Since the launching of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign in 2003, 2,326 women and men have shared their testimonies publicly at over 200 gatherings in 44 states and six countries where more than 15,000 spectators have heard the truth about abortion's negative aftereffects. More than 4,100 people are registered to be Silent No More. Raising awareness about the hurtful aftermath of abortion and the help that is available to cope with the pain are two of the Campaign's goals.
