Christian Group Calls for 19 Days of National Prayer and Fasting for President-elect Barack Obama Before the Inauguration

WASHINGTON, (christiansunite.com) -- Beginning January 1, the Christian Defense Coalition will lead prayer for President-Elect Obama outside of the White House every day at 12:00 noon until the Inauguration.The group will close with a large prayer vigil on the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Holiday on Monday, January 19 at noon.
The Christian Defense Coalition is encouraging the faith community to pray for Mr. Obama at noon in their homes, churches and local communities all across the nation.
The group will be praying daily for President-Elect Obama from the 40 year old Inaugural Prayer of Dr. Billy Graham.
Some of the key quotes from Dr. Graham's prayer are:
"We thank Thee for this torch of faith handed to us by our forefathers. May we never let it be extinguished. Thou alone hast given us our prosperity, our freedom and power. This faith in God is our heritage and foundation."
"The whole world is watching to see if the faith of our fathers will stand the trials and tests of the hour. Too long we have neglected Thy word and ignored Thy laws. Too long we have tried to solve our problems without reference to Thee. Too long we have tried to live by bread alone."
"So we pray, O God, as we enter a new era, that we as a nation may experience a moral and spiritual restoration."
"O God, our new President needs Thee as no man ever needed Thee in leading a people! There will be times when he will be overwhelmed by the problems at home and abroad that have been building up to the breaking point for many years. Protect him from physical danger. And in the lonely moments of decision grant him an uncompromising courage to do what is morally right."
"What we pray for President Obama we pray for Vice President Biden and members of the Cabinet. May they be given a wisdom and courage that is beyond their own. As part of this season of prayer, Rev. Patrick Mahoney Director of the Christian Defense Coalition will be going on a 21 day fast and hunger strike to pray for and stand in solidarity and identify with the homeless, poor and disenfranchised of America as well as the 50,000,000 innocent victims of abortion.
