MEDIA ADVISORY, (christiansunite.com) -- Mission Solano, a homeless mission in northern California, today called on the Obama Administration and both houses of Congress to quickly amend the Cash for Clunkers program to help charities hurt by the program.

"Today we are asking the President of the United States and the leaders of the House and Senate to make a midway correction in the Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save (CARS) program, more commonly known as Cash for Clunkers" said Ron Marlette, Mission Solano Executive Director. "An unintended effect of the Cash for Clunkers program is that it diverts cars that could be donated to charities and then resold to those who cannot afford new vehicles. We are asking that these so-called clunkers not be destroyed but be turned over to charities for resale."

Marlette and community members stood in front of a backdrop of rows of cars destined for destruction, and surrounded by signs reading "Clemency for Clunkers" and "No Death Penalty for Cars". The site, just yards away from the Fairfield Auto Mall has been nicknamed "Automobile Death Row".

"We urge our political leaders to find the will to save these cars. While Cash for Clunkers has brought much needed business to new car dealers, not everyone can purchase a new vehicle. Many people in this community have much worse cars than these so- called clunkers, or no car at all. Return these cars to the streets of our community." Marlette pleaded.

Mission Solano provides food, shelter, counseling and training for the most vulnerable in Solano County. The Mission is scheduled to open its 154 bed Bridge to Life Center in Fairfield by the end of the year. Mission Solano is a 501(c) 3 charitable organization.
