SBA List President on NY-23 Election Results

WASHINGTON, (christiansunite.com) -- Last night Democratic Party candidate Bill Owens won the special election for New York's 23rd Congressional District. Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser offered the following statement:

"To dismiss the narrow defeat of conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman as a lesson in the playing out of the 'conservative spoiler' in a three-way race would be to miss the real lesson completely. Conservative efforts on the ground finally gave a voice to the thousands of voters in the district who believe that life, marriage, and fiscal responsibility all matter. Without these people, no GOP candidate can win, in New York or elsewhere.

"To be frank, this is a win for motivated conservative activists who are driven by issues and not party. Dede Scozzafava's advocacy of the extreme Obama agenda would have been a great loss for the GOP and all those who care about the values enshrined in its platform. The road to a GOP majority is not paved with taxpayer-funded abortion, same-sex marriage and government-run healthcare.

"Last night's resounding Democratic defeats in Virginia and New Jersey came at the hands of a unified effort, and the largest margin from a candidate who heartily embraced conservative values. Such success should serve as a cautionary tale to Congress and the White House, whose overreach on health care could experience a similar demise."

The Susan B. Anthony List, in partnership with the National Organization for Marriage, led the social conservative effort to mobilize votes for Conservative Party Candidate Doug Hoffman. The pro-life Susan B. Anthony List spent $142,000 in the race, including $62,000 on the ground operation, $50,000 radio ads, $14,000 in GOTV phone calls, and $11,000 in bundled contributions from organization members.

The Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund joined the Club for Growth to be one of the first political action committees to endorse Doug Hoffman for Congress on September 28, 2009. The fund supports pro-life female candidates, as well as pro-life male candidates who run against female candidates in favor of abortion rights.

The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of Americans, over 167,000 residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.
