Senate Chooses Radical Feminist Abortion Ethos Over Pro-Life Majority

WASHINGTON, (christiansunite.com) -- In response to the public release of health care reform legislation in the U.S. Senate, Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser offered the following statement:

"Well now we know the formula to drive Democrats back into the arms of radical feminists, against their own best interest. Lies, scare tactics, and misdirection in the form of coat hangers are what it takes to persuade Senators to ignore the majority sentiment of their constituents. But now senators have a bigger problem -- a bill that is out of step with the majority of America. Americans -- women included -- reject the radical feminist vision of an abortion for every home, at government expense.

"Early feminists like Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton recognized that women's rights can never be built on the broken rights of innocent unborn children. On behalf of a majority pro-life America, I urge senators to vote no on the cloture vote on the motion to proceed. Until the pro-life Stupak language is added to the Senate health care bill, the measure must be opposed. Senators Casey, Landrieu, Lincoln, and Nelson must recognize that a vote for cloture is a complete betrayal of their pro-life constituents. There is no middle ground, either you fund abortion or you don't."

On Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D- NV) released the senate version of health care reform, the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act. Reid is expected to file for cloture on the motion to proceed today, with a vote expected on Saturday night. The Susan B. Anthony List plans to mobilize its 290,000 members and activists to contact their senators and urge opposition to advancing the bill without the addition of the pro-life Stupak language.

As part of its Votes Have Consequences project, the Susan B. Anthony List has funded $130,000 in television (video), radio ads and educational phone calls across Nevada calling on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) to defend Life in health care reform.

For the last several months, the Susan B. Anthony List has mobilized tens of thousands of pro-life Americans nationwide to urge Congress to exclude abortion from healthcare reform. Susan B. Anthony List activists have sent nearly 500,000 letters to Congress requesting an explicit exclusion of abortion from health care reform.

The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of Americans, over 167,000 residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.
