FRANKLIN, Tenn., (christiansunite.com) -- In 2006 videographer Fred Wilharm and his freelance writer wife, Sharon, went to the theater to see Facing the Giants."We were excited to see an independent Christian movie so well done," says Sharon. "It inspired me to go home and write a screenplay." She immediately wrote Class of 91, but it didn't work out for them to produce it at that time.
Three years later, the Wilharms saw Fireproof and decided the time had come to produce their own movie.
Class of 91 makes its premiere on March 6 when churches in 17 states plus Canada will be hosting free Class of 91 Movie Premiere Events.
Class of 91 is the story of Roger and Diane Wagner, a couple preparing to impress their classmates at their 20-year reunion. Then the unthinkable happens. Roger loses his job. Just when they've lost all hope, Roger is offered a job as director of a community center and they make some dramatic changes in their way of living.
"When I wrote the screenplay we were the Wagners," says Sharon. "We'd just moved to one of the wealthiest areas in the country and purchased a luxury home in a gated subdivision. Then we realized it wasn't worth it."
So the Wilharms downsized to a smaller rental home that they already owned, and with the money saved each month, were able to finance Class of 91.
"Now we want to encourage others to simplify their lives and focus on what's truly important," says Fred. "Our goal is to spread the message of hope to those who are struggling financially. That's why we're offering the movie to churches for free, so that as many people as possible can watch it."
Class of 91 includes an amazing cast of talented Christian actors. Roger Wagner is played by Tim Steed, 2009 Christian Comedian winner at the Branson Comedy Festival. Diane Wagner is played by Susan Miller, an accomplished actress and vocalist who toured with Donna Summer. Roger's dad is played by Star Trek New Voyages actor, Tim Brazeal.
