President Obama Shows Utter Contempt and Disdain for the Faith Community by Including Abortion Funding in Healthcare Legislation

WASHINGTON, (christiansunite.com) -- Under the current legislative proposals, Catholics, Evangelicals and other faithful Christians would be forced to fund abortions with their tax dollars.

It is now clear that the promises President Obama made to the faith community to reduce the number of abortions and affirm human rights for all were just empty words to curry favor with Catholic and Evangelical voters in 2008.

It is one thing to have a sincere disagreement over abortion. It is quite another thing to force Catholics and other faithful Christians to pay for the killing of innocent children with their tax dollars.

The message and lesson learned from this should be clear to the entire faith community. President Obama does not respect and share your values. The President does not embrace your commitment to human rights and social justice and the President will say whatever is necessary to win your vote.

As a Christian if you feel used and betrayed by President Obama, you would be completely justified.

The Christian Defense Coalition which has led and organized a national campaign called, "Abortion is Not Healthcare," is calling for Christians all across the nation next week to fast and pray for the defeat of the healthcare bill which includes the public funding of abortion.

The Coalition will be having prayer vigils outside of Speaker Pelosi's Cannon House office every day beginning Monday, March 15, at noon.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, states,

"It is now clear that the promises President Obama made to the faith community on the campaign trail about reducing the number of abortions and affirming social justice for all were just empty promises to get our votes. By refusing to reach an agreement with Congressman Stupak, the President has made it clear that he will push forward with healthcare legislation that will include the public funding of abortion.

"Under the current healthcare plan, all Catholics and Evangelicals will be forced to pay for the killing of innocent children with their tax dollars. Is this what President Obama meant by hope and change?

"President Obama you may choose to run for President in 2012. However, If you do we respectfully ask that you do not pretend to be a faithful Christian or a person who embraces human rights and social justice for all. It is appalling for a person to use their faith as a commodity and Christianity as a prop for political gain."
