WASHINGTON, (christiansunite.com) -- Today, a coalition of conservative groups led by the American Principles Project, Susan B. Anthony List, Let Freedom Ring and American Values delivered 20,000 petitions from Americans to the Republican leadership in Congress demanding that it feature family values in its soon-to-be-released legislative agenda."This blueprint must include pro-life priorities spelled out in a broader family values plank," said Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of the Susan B. Anthony List. "It would be an electorally costly mistake for the GOP to write off one leg of the three-legged stool of Ronald Reagan conservatism."
"This election cycle has proven that American values won't be dictated by elites from either party," said Andy Blom, executive director of the American Principles Project. "It's not just the economy, these petitions and election results show large majorities of Americans want the Republican Party to offer more than lip service -- they want to see action on moral issues."
"Pro-life, pro-family values aren't wedge issues. They're critical for the future of our country and the party," said Gary Bauer, president of American Values. "Let's hold their feet to the fire."
The coalition organizations have actively lobbied the Republican leadership to embrace family values after reports surfaced that it did not plan to include them in its agenda. On September 2, the Susan B. Anthony List launched its "Life Speaking Out Campaign" ( www.LifeSpeakingOut.com) aimed at encouraging House GOP leadership to make protecting women and the unborn a priority in its legislative blueprint expected after Labor Day.
On September 8, the American Principles Project launched its petition drive, called "Plank 1" (www.goplank1.com), with a website and millions of emails encouraging the leadership to embrace family values. A copy of Plank 1 language and explanatory cover letter have been sent to every Republican member's office in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
