Christian Aid on Tsunami Alert for Latin American West Coast

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., (christiansunite.com) -- Native missionaries throughout Latin American pacific coastal countries are heeding tsunami warnings and preparing to respond to potential disasters. The countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador and Guatemala are most endangered. However, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru could also be affected.Donations may be made to the Lain American Disaster Relief Fund, gift code 100HELP. "Of course, we hope that all the native missionaries we support will get to high ground and be out of harm's way, but just in case we are prepared to act," said Rosa Contreras Hart, who is keeping a watch and in contact with Latin American and Central American leaders.
Christian Aid Mission, based in Charlottesville, supports 26 native ministries in the countries which Hart serves. Born in Peru, her mother tongue is Spanish and she communicates freely with indigenous ministries throughout Latin America.
Few other countries in the Pacific basin are likely to be affected according to Steve Van Valkenburg, Director for Southeast Asia, although he is keeping a close eye on the Philippines and the Pacific islands.
